The Alabama Department of Environmental Management was impressed with the performance of Storm Water Systems’ trash trap in Mobile. In a recent report the trap had captured 500 cubic yards of thrash.

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) gave the City of Mobile high marks on a recent audit of the City of Mobile’s stormwater program. ADEM inspected the City’s best management practice on construction and post-construction stormwater management, pollution prevention, flood control projects, pesticide and fertilizer application, illicit discharge detection and elimination, spill prevention and response, storm water management of industrial sites and public outreach and education.
Audit Highlights:
- Collected 328 tons of litter in City parks.
- Swept 11,250 cubic yards of litter from City’s streets.
- Installed 139 total catch basin screen and 8 litter baskets around Mardi Gras parade routes.
- Captured 500 cubic yards of trash in the litter trap.
- Removed 80 cubic yards of trash on the litter boats.
“When I first stepped into office, Mobile was the poster child for stormwater mismanagement. As the rainiest city in America, this is a serious problem. Now, we are well on our way to becoming the poster child for stormwater excellence.” Mayor Stimpson said.
