Where protection meets innovation

Discover the pioneer in floating litter capture technology

The Bandalong Litter Trap™ has been a groundbreaking solution in water pollution control since the 1990s, setting the standard for nearly three decades. Engineered with resilience and sustainability in mind, it has become the trusted choice for organizations dedicated to the long-term health of aquatic water systems.

The Bandalong Litter Trap™ is an in-stream device, expertly designed to capture floating litter and debris in waterways before they can reach the ocean. It is highly effective in rivers, streams, creeks, lakes, drainage culverts and other waterways with a current.  Importantly, Bandalong Litter Traps do not impact channel hydraulics or flood levels and are specially crafted to ensure they do not impede the movement of aquatic wildlife.

Continuous Environmental Protection

This robust tool guarantees uninterrupted operation, making it a reliable solution for long-term water pollution control. Each model is expertly crafted to meet the unique demands of various waterway environments. The Bandalong's specially designed floating structure rises and falls with the water’s surface, allowing it to adapt seamlessly to changes in water level, including complete seasonal drought. This ensures your commitment to environmental stewardship is consistently upheld.

Innovative Capture Technology

Our traps leverage natural water currents to efficiently guide debris into the collection system, operating continuously 24/7, 365 days a year without the need for mechanical intervention. The dynamic floating design automatically adjusts to changing water levels, ensuring effective performance in a wide range of environmental conditions while preserving aquatic life and water flow integrity.

Efficient Debris Direction

Collection booms extend outward to direct debris into the trap efficiently. In tidal areas, optional tidal gates keep litter contained, using a system of counterweights and paddles to close the entry gate when water flow stops or changes direction due to tide or wind. These traps are designed for ease of access, supporting multiple debris removal methods, including mechanical, manual, and vacuum extraction, ensuring versatility in maintenance.

Bandalong Bulldog – Model #920

This video highlights the Bandalong Bulldog Model #920, installed in a drainage channel in Huntington Beach, CA, in 2016. Measuring 16 feet wide by 30 feet long, the Bulldog, like other full-size Bandalong Litter Traps, features 12-inch HDPE booms and 6061-T6 aluminum structural members. The aluminum is powder-coated to deter theft, ensuring durability and security.

For this installation, pilings were used for anchoring, a method selected based on site-specific engineering requirements. The Bandalong Bulldog empties into the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve and the Pacific Ocean, incorporating a tidal gate to prevent trapped litter from escaping during tidal changes. Operating in environments ranging from fresh to brackish and saltwater, the Bulldog provides effective litter capture across diverse conditions.

Bandalong Beast – Model #922

This video showcases the unloading of the Bandalong Beast, our robust Model #922, which measures 16 feet wide by 50 feet long. Engineered for durability, the Bandalong Beast underwent Finite Element Analysis (FEA) by a consulting engineer, confirming its capacity to support up to 8,000 pounds while remaining afloat. Although encountering such a massive load of floatables may be rare, this trap is built to handle woody debris, grass, and other materials from miles of open channels.Installed in a 200-foot-wide channel, the site required 400 linear feet of Bandalong Collection Boom, featuring a 6-inch flexible draft skirt to capture partially submerged litter and debris. The Bandalong Beast, though snug in the channel’s low flow, effectively manages peak rain events that fill the channel to the top of the bank.Over the past seven years, this Bandalong Beast has captured everything from couches and tons of wet grass to various other floatables. Discarded household items and litter regularly travel downstream during significant rain events, only to be intercepted by this powerful system.Cleanouts are efficiently managed with a crane, utilizing the two lift-out baskets available as an option for the Bandalong Beast.
